Tour Description
Jamaica Zipline Adventure Tours Limited is in the parish of Hanover in the quaint town of Lethe at the Lethe Estates just 20 minutes from Montego Bay and the port. The ride to Lethe is a pleasant country drive into the mountains. Once at Lethe Estates the guests will be dropped off at our welcome area "The Green" a beautiful mountain setting on the banks of the Great River. After being welcomed each guest will be issued their personal safety gear (PSG). They then will be broken into groups no larger then 12 per group each group will have 2 trained and certified tour guides. Once all guests have their gear on and have been checked out by a trained guide they will go to the safety briefing location.
In order to get to the safety briefing area and the start of the course the guests will be driven in a 6x6 off-road vehicle called a Pinzgauer. Their adventure soon begins with a Safari Ride through the mountains to reach the briefing area. The ride up is a little rough but you will not be able to stop yourself from giggling along the way. These vehicles can go up and over anything. Once at the safety briefing location they will be told all about the Zipline experience. The breaking system used is gravity not glove breaking. No participant will ever have their hands or any body part near the cables while the pulley is moving. There will be a questions and answers period and then the guest will move to the first Zipline.
This tour was designed and built by a U.S. firm called Canopy Tours, Inc and exceeds all industry construction, training, and safety standards. The guides all receive a minimum of 200 hours of training.
At each Zipline one guide explains that Zip and then they go first leaving the other guide behind to manage the guest's departure. The first guide arrives at the far side of the Zipline and will manage each guest's arrival to that platform or ground landing. This process repeats itself from one Zipline to the next.
We have 5 ziplines at various lengths from 250' to 1,600'. There is also a 250' Jungle Bridge along the way. The course was carefully designed to start with a very easy low to the ground short 250' zip with a gentle landing, and work your way towards the last zip at 1,600' (This zip and all the zips have very gentle landings as well).
Part of our mission is to educate our guest and share the rich culture of Jamaica with them. At each platform there will be information on the surrounding area. We will be labeling the trees and plant life with signs, we will also have platforms that will talk about the culture and the people (This will be done later). At the beginning of Zip 4 we have planted a botanical garden where we are growing sugar cane, banana, coconuts, coffee, ginger, palms, and more. The guests are given time to walk through the garden and are told about the different plants and how they play a critical role in the Jamaican lifestyle, and environment. There will be samples of some of these products available for the guests to try if they would like.
After Zip 4 in order to access the next zip the guest must cross our 250' jungle bridge. This breaks the tour up nicely and ads another fascinating experience to the tour. The last Zip 5 is the longest zip in Jamaica at 1,600' you really get the sensation of flight as you pass over the tree canopy and view the Great River from 200' off the deck while traveling at speed of 30 - 40 mph (you are very safe it just sounds crazy). After that most exhilarating experience the guests are driven back to the welcome area where they may relax or choose to partake in one of the other activities offered at Lethe Estates.
